A ranking of eleven fantasy series. With hot characters. And blood.

I love fantasy series. And by fantasy I mean paranormal, zombie-filled or fairytale-inspired shows. And if there happen to be some angels included: great! The more, the merrier. Really tho. I have a thing for those winged bastards. Anyway, I thought I’d share you my insight on some series fulfilling the description as mentioned above…

Anyway, I thought I’d share you my insight on some series fulfilling the description as mentioned above and even give you a specific ranking. I’m feeling a bit lazy today, so I’m only giving information about my top five. I’ll share some more on the other six later on. Maybe.

1. Game of Thrones 9/10 (IMDb score: 9,5)
I’m not gonna bother explaining what this show is about. If you don’t know, you’re either living in a cave like Gollem or some hipster trying to differentiate from the masses and society by not watching it because “it’s so not original” and the incredibly obvious reason “everyone is watching it and I’m not like everyone else. I’m special! SPECIAL, OKAY! NO-ONE GETS ME!”. Ahum, moving on: I personally find it very amusing. There are plenty of different storylines, the intense manipulation and intrigues are fascinating and the obvious killings (with shock factor) are a huge bonus. That being said: there are a lot (and I truly mean a lot) of boring dialogues and slow moments. The best part of every episode takes place at the end. So you’ll have to wait approximately 40 minutes to get to the good part, after which you’ll either laugh hysterically while also crying (which is exactly what I did after the final episode of season 5) or cheer in excitement to celebrate what just happened. One tip: do not get attached to characters. They will die. That’s a fact.

2. Supernatural9/10 (IMDb score: 8,7)
Long story short: this show is about two (incredibly good-looking) brothers who are trained to hunt monsters and demons. Hm. Yeah, that’s about it. Every episode has an individual story, but there’s a bigger plot throughout the whole series. The first season is a bit outdated now (2005), but still good. Supernatural continues to get better and more intense throughout the seasons, and the supporting roles are well chosen. And by that I mean they threw in angels somewhere along season 5 (if I’m not mistaken), and I freakin’ love Castiel, played by Misha Collins (Hola, #mishamigos). Honestly, I like this show as much as Game of Thrones, maybe even more. The creative minds behind this masterpiece also like to mock other horror series and movies, and they aren’t afraid to do so. Combined with a lot of subtle humor, I’d say this series is spot on.

3. The Walking Dead9/10 (IMDb score: 8,6)
Zombies. This thing is all about zombies. In a good way. Follow a group of survivors in a world that’s overrun by the undead. Some of the characters are annoying as fuck, and yes: you will wish a walker will get to them. I understand. (GOD DAMN IT, ANDREA! COULD YOU JUST DIE ALREADY!). Then again: people in real life can by annoying as well, so this series is just “keeping it real”. Most of the characters are raw, unmannered, and painfully human. Special effects are amazing, as they should be considering the budget they spend on it.

4. American Horror Story8/10 (IMDb score: 8,3)
This one’s difficult. Right now, there are 4 seasons, with a fifth one airing in October. Every season tells a completely different story, and they aren’t connected. (Fans will argue with me on this one, because there are some small crossovers, but the storylines are completely separate so I think that’s irrelevant. Your argument is invalid). The actors do stay the same though, which is interesting. Evan Peters and Jessica Lange rule this thing. I’d have to give each season a different score:

  1. Season one: Murder House – 8/10
  2. Season two: Asylum – 9/10
  3. Season three: Coven – 6.5/10
  4. Season four: Freak Show – 7/10

5. Dominion7,5/10 ((IMDb score: 6,8)
This show is not as known as I thought it’d be. Most people I mention it to never heard of it before, and I thinks it’s a shame, because it’s actually pretty good. It’s about a guy who learns he has to save the city/world (very cliché, I know, but give it a shot), and becomes “frenemies” with the archangel Michael, who wants to train him to fight his brother Gabriel. The casting of Michael is perfect, and he’s the main reason why I kept watching. Oh, and they (the angels) don’t have sissy wings. (So no, they’re not white and fluffy. They’re badass). I definitely enjoyed it.

6.   Heroes 7/10 (IMDb score: 7,7)
7.   the Vampire Diaries *7/10 (IMDb score: 7,9)
8.   Once Upon a Time6,5/10 (IMDb score: 8)
9.   Teen Wolf * – 6,5/10 (IMDb score: 7,8)
10. Under the Dome6/10 (IMDb score: 6,9)
11. Grimm6/10 (IMDb score: 7,8)

* These are kinda teen series, but I will admit I’ve enjoyed them nonetheless. Makes me forget I’m getting old. And wrinkled. Think high school drama, love triangles and frenemies. Both did surprise me during the latest season. They even outrank Grimm (too much of a Disneyvibe, not as dark as it should be.. Didn’t get through season one, so it’s possible that it gets better).
