After years and years (..and years) of secret envy and consideration, I finally took the plunge and bought myself a pair of over the knee boots. I always admired the trend on various blogs, but never felt confident enough to wear them. Besides, there’s a high risk of looking like the leading lady in pretty woman, and I don’t think that’s the result you’re going for. So here are some tips if you‘re searching for the perfect pair that isn’t going to make you look like a prostitute:
- Stay away from stiletto’s. Go for a more subtle,
“plumper” heel. Unless you think you can get away with it. If so: by all means, go ahead. But for goodness sake, stay away from cobblestones, okay? Your ankles will thank you. Seriously. - Suede has a more sophisticated look and feel to it than slithery, plain leather.
- Keep it simple: avoid lace-ups or shiny detailing.
- Try to go for quality instead of the biggest bargain. Is it well finished, or does it look cheap? Now, this doesn’t mean you have to spend loads: there are decent shoes to find in a lot of different price ranges. So no excuse!
Outfitwise, I advise you to keep it basic and maybe even a bit masculine. Stay away from plunging necklines and overly embroidered pieces. You can wear a dress or skirt, as long as it covers more than merely your ass. A long, oversized coat works perfectly to finish your look. If you’re still unsure: Google, Instagram and Pinterest are your best friends. Use them to compare and to get inspired. Oh, and go for a “nude” or “classic” look in the make-up department. Just a hint.
