I’m not a raging sports enthousiast. I’ve never experienced mediocre or high level accomplishments when it came to athletic hobbies and activities. Having to prove myself during soccer, volleyball or a basic dance routine at our school’s gym class was actual, live hell. I had no eye-hand coordination whatsoever, often tripped over my own feet, and couldn’t catch a ball even if you threw it from a 1 meter range. So naturally when it came to the sports department, I was about as far from your typical overachiever as it gets. And the last one to get picked during any team activity. Thanks, guys.
Since a couple of years though basic survival instinct must’ve kicked in and for some odd evolutionary reason -the only plausible explanation- I’ve actually grown to truly enjoy the occasional workout, whether it’s one of my pole dancing classes (Sorry, mom), a simple weight training or a short run by the water or greenery. If you would’ve told me 5 years ago that I’d A) like doing those things and B) be able to do said things without messing up I would’ve given you a 7 second unimpressed glance until you and your lunatic ideas walked away from the table. But here we are. Well played, universe.
Anyway, to keep up the good work I’ve set some weekly goals. Some of those I’m already doing, others have been beneficially added and adjusted.
- Go for a min. 3km run at least once – Increase to 5km by March.
- Attend min. 1 intermediate and 1 exotic pole dancing class
- Have a set pole dancing workout at home to practice new and old moves (min. 60 minutes)
- Stretch daily (Approximately 20-30 minutes) – & Learn to do the splits (deadline: 14th of February).
- Weight training (cardio optional) 1-2 times, min. 35 minutes
If you’re already into sports or just take a second to process the list you’ll notice it’s pretty damn achievable, even for someone whose spirit animal is a baby sloth. I added some deadlines in the naive hope it’ll motivate me to prove myself by seeing it published on this blog. I’ll let you know how that went.
In the meantime I wish you the best of holidays: May your transition into 2020 be as uplifting as a newly opened bottle of authentic Mexican tequila. Feliz Año Nuevo, amigos!
