There, I said it. I’ve tested two different laser hair removal techniques (each at a different beauty salon), and after no less than 27 painful sessions, I’m here to tell you the honest truth about the experience of most women I know: it’s the biggest beauty scam out there.
Now, before you come at me with the “it does work for me”: if it does, great! Maybe you’re one of the rare lucky few. But the whole “you’ll be permanently hair-free in 6 to 8 almost painless sessions, with one maintenance session yearly” is total bullshit in my experience. And despite every salon out there promoting their latest laser technique as the one for all hair and skin types, even my last salon admitted there’s “some” people it simply does not work on. Speaking with friends and acquaintances about their experiences to find out if it really is just me and my bad luck, I’ve had no choice but to determine those “some” are the ones it actually works on, not the other way around. The treatment only resulted in less and/or a completely different hair growth. Softer, lighter, but never gone. And although it felt incredibly promising to see it being reduced to almost nothing, after wrapping up treatment, the disillusion came: instead of the promised yearly maintenance session, hairs began to grow back after a month or three as if they were never gone to begin with. How disappointing indeed.
Which brings me to their other big claim: almost painless? Are you shitting me? It often felt like having a lighter held against my most delicate parts. Don’t know how you guys feel about that, but I would definitely not recommend burning your punani. It would of course be tolerable if the “max 8 sessions”-lure turned out to be true, but after almost thirty treatments I’ve officially reached my limit.
For those wondering, I’ve tested both the Diode Ice Laser as well as the Lutronic Clarity II, which supposedly are the best options out there. And yes, I even went as far as trying out three different salons who shall not be named in various regions: Merelbeke, Destelbergen and Kortrijk.
After throwing in the bath towel I’ve been advised by some friends to simply take matters into my own hands and try out an at-home wireless laser removal device (for example by Braun or Philips). One-time cost, low effort, and easier to maintain. Because let’s face it: no-one has the funds to keep up with a salon treatment in this economy, especially if the results are severely lacking.
Keep you posted. Sincerely, Chewbacca.
